Case Studies
global programs and links
Sherwood's client associations typically have memberships and relations around the world and a global approach to their field. But there's more to being an international organization than accepting members from outside the United States, or adding "International" to the organization's name.
The Sherwood Group routinely supports and develops international programs for its clients, from sensitivity issues to international travel scholarships to managing major meetings to supporting the development of local organizations in developing nations. Here are just a few examples:
A Global Network of Chapters & Events
The Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (a Sherwood client since 1980) is a scientific organization supporting the advancement and global implementation of nuclear safeguards: physical protection, spent fuel management, transportation and packaging, nuclear non-proliferation, verification, arms control, and materials control and accountability. Members are scientists, engineers, policy-makers and researchers in government and industry.
Since its beginnings in 1962, INMM has evolved to meet the changing demands of global politics and the spread of technology. Sherwood has helped the organization reach out to and support international members and chapters in a variety of meaningful ways.
- In 1989 Sherwood developed a pioneering electronic abstract submission program and CD-based conference proceedings, making the meeting more accessible by non-North American members.
- For more than 20 years Sherwood has managed the Institute's annual meetings and international workshops. Sherwood has managed events supported by national and regional organizations around the world, such as EURATOM and PATRAM.
- Sherwood supports local chapters across the U.S. and in Japan, Austria, Korea, Obninsk, Russian Federation, the Ukraine and the Urals. Translation programs bring the Institute's journal to Japanese and Spanish-speaking members.
- In partnership with the Nuclear Threat Initiative, INMM conducted two week-long workshops in Prague, bringing together nuclear materials management leaders from developed and developing countries to discuss best practices in materials control, accountancy and physical protection of nuclear materials.
Staging International Congresses and Meetings
The Sherwood Group has produced successful meetings and congresses around the world, including recent events in North, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Asia. We've also developed second-language microsites to market the meeting to professionals in the local host country, as well as bilingual posters, flyers and onsite meeting materials.
Establishing Partnerships with Sister Organizations Worldwide
Sherwood assisted the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies in the creation of a federation to support communication and cooperation between traumatic stress studies organizations around the world. ISTSS members and members of organizations on nearly every continent on the globe now enjoy increased access to information on the field, reduced membership fees based on home country GNP, and reciprocal programs and benefits.
